Forming a Concrete Night Stand

Forming a concrete night stand is a simple and easy way to add playful and modern detail to your home. Plus, this table can be repurposed for use around the home.

Project Instructions

When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.

Step 1
Layout desired shape and width of mold 3 Lego bricks high. Place temporary Lego spacers to the inside and outside rings of the mold to assure consistency all the way around.

Step 2
Hot glue the bottom of the Legos to the top of the ¾” melamine board.

Step 3
Continue to build the mold up brick by brick to reach desired height. At the top place Lego support braces to ensure the walls do not bend outward under the weight of the concrete.

Step 4
Take the QUIKRETE Counter Top Mix in a 5 gallon bucket and mix in with clean tap water.

Step 5
Take spade and spoon into Lego form, adding about 3 inches at a time. Then take wooden dowel and push concrete mix down into mold, making sure to get concrete mix into corners. Vibrate the mold to release any air bubbles.  Repeat this process until the mold is full.

Step 6
After pouring the concrete, level and smooth off the top of the mold. This step is not vital to project and Lego side will facing towards the front.

QUIKTIP:  A trowel can be made of Legos to smooth the surface.

Step 7
Leave the concrete and allow the concrete to cure for at least 20 hours before removing the mold.

Step 8
Remove the mold by first removing upper layers and then cut sections that were glued with a knife.

Step 9
Add Lego or wood legs and a drawer.

QUIKTIP:  Due to concrete being heavy it is encouraged if using Lego legs to glue them together.

Step 10
Clean the Legos by flaking off easy to remove concrete. If concrete remains, use toothbrush and cool soapy water to remove excess concrete.
