POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Public Relations Director is responsible for strengthening The QUIKRETE Companies' reputation through strategic communication initiatives that facilitate trial, preference and advocacy of products and services across all companies and brands. The duties in this role include media relations, employee communications, crisis communications, corporate social responsibility, content development, social media, digital communications and research. The Public Relations Director reports to the SVP of Marketing and works collaboratively within a team to integrate communications into The QUIKRETE Companies marketing programs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary media relations contact for The QUIKRETE Companies.
- Facilitate a news bureau leveraging new products, projects, awards and other company news to generate editorial coverage and to develop content shared across other communication channels.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, pitch letters, briefing documents, talking points, Q&As and other materials for conducting media outreach and coordinating media opportunities.
- Conduct annual NYC media tour to foster coverage opportunities in consumer magazines, trade magazines, online outlets and other target media.
- Draft case studies/profiles promoting the use of products and services on unique, high-profile or challenging commercial building or repair projects.
- Foster thought leadership through subject matter expert speaking engagements and bylined articles.
- Prepare spokespeople for interviews and staff interviews.
- Manage issues and crisis communications to include customer complaints, legal allegations, plant and vehicle accidents.
- Conduct research to understand customer behavior, attitudes and trends for brand building, story ideation and content development.
- Promote acquisitions to reinforce corporate positioning while supporting existing brand equity.
- Monitor, secure, analyze and merchandise media coverage using tracking service Meltwater.
- Support websites content development to include managing online press room.
- Serve as a primary contact for home improvement and do-it-yourself bloggers.
- Support the Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other social media activities.
- Publish and distribute quarterly employee newsletter, quarterly homeowner e-newsletter and quarterly contractor e-newsletter and other direct e-communications using MailChimp.
- Conduct media relations and support logistics for World of Concrete, Haven Conference and other trade shows, as needed.
- Facilitate corporate social responsibility to include qualifying opportunities and fulfilling requests.
- Manage existing Home Projects Council and other thought-leadership initiatives.
- Secure agency support and manage those relationships, as needed.
- Present annual PR plan including objectives, strategies, metrics, timeline and budgets.
Qualifications:
- 10-plus years of public relations or communications experience in an agency or corporate environment.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to develop and to strategically direct the creation of press materials and communications plans.
- Ability to determine strategic outreach plans to external audiences: consumers, builders, retailers, dealers, distributors, media, third party organizations, etc.
- Experience providing counsel to executive level management and other company leadership.
- Keen understanding of the role of digital media in integrated communications strategies.
- Hands-on; exhibits a willingness to jump in and get the work done in an engaging work environment.
- Works effectively within a team and contributes to problem-solving.
- Flexible approach; has the ability to change priorities against changing client and team needs.
