This hillside construction project in Scottsdale, Arizona required a reinforced concrete retaining wall foundation to stabilize sloped terrain and support future development. Site conditions included elevation changes, dense subsurface rock, and an existing stormwater line that needed to remain operational throughout construction.
Work began with survey layout and precision excavation to establish alignment, elevations, and the footing trench. Hard dig operations were performed where necessary to reach design depth and maintain grade through rocky conditions. Reinforcing steel was then installed, including vertical and horizontal rebar, creating a continuous structural framework engineered to resist lateral soil pressure and long-term loading.
Formwork was installed and concrete placement was completed in carefully planned sections to maintain alignment, thickness, and structural integrity. The wall foundation was poured using a high-quality QUIKRETE 4,000 PSI MAG AA mix, selected for consistent performance and strength in structural retaining wall applications. A custom sleeve was incorporated to protect an existing stormwater line running through the site while maintaining proper drainage flow.
After placement, backfill was installed in compacted lifts and the wall was prepared for waterproofing as part of the overall foundation system. In total, over 1,000 cubic yards of concrete were placed to complete this reinforced retaining wall foundation built for long-term stability and performance on sloped terrain.
