Project Instructions

When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves. Also, it’s important to comply with any and all local building codes.

Step 1
Determine the dimensions of the counter top, and construct forms using melamine.

Step 2
Cut 2 inch melamine strips using a circular saw. These will be the sides of the forms.

Step 3
Drill pilot holes every 6 inches, along the tops of the strips.

Step 4
Screw the strips to the base.

Step 5
Clean the form.

Step 6
Mask the base and sides of the form with painters tape.

Step 7
Caulk the seams with silicone caulk, and smooth excess with a gloved fingertip.

Step 8
Carefully remove the tape.

QUIK-Tip: To add a sink to the countertop, glue rigid foam down to the base of the form.

Step 9
Mix the countertop mix according to the instructions on the bag, and place first lift. Add QUIKRETE Liquid Cement Color to the mixing water, before mixing, if desired.

Step 10
Position Rebar (if needed).

Step 11
Place second lift.

Step 12
Screed the surface by dragging a 2x4 across the concrete in a sawing motion.

Step 13
Vibrate the form with a vibrating palm sander or rubber mallet, to eliminate any air bubbles or voids.

Step 14
Cover the form with plastic sheeting and let cure. Wait at least 18 hours.

Step 15
Carefully remove the forms and flip.

QUIK-Tip: Polyblend Polymer Modified Non-Sanded Grout can be mixed to a slurry consistency and use to fill any remaining bug holes.

Step 16
Sand the edges and corners.

Step 17
Place the newly formed countertop piece(s) on top of the outdoor kitchen base.

Step 18
Seal the countertops with QUIKRETE@ Acrylic Concrete Cure & Seal.

Step 19
Install the sink, grill, refrigerator or any other hardware or appliances, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
