Frank Lloyd Wright House
The QUIKRETE® Companies supplied specially formulated mortar to aid in the $23 million restoration of the Darwin D. Martin House complex, designed and built by world-renowned architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Determined to remain faithful to Wright’s original design and materials, The QUIKRETE® Companies expertly matched the new mortar with historic mortar applied more than 100 years ago.

Phillies Stadium
When Philadelphia went to build its new home for the Phillies, they turned to masonry contractor Dan Lepore & Sons, and Dan Lepore & Sons turned to QUIKRETE® for their mortar, grout and mortar color needs. Our ability to custom blend mortar color ensured that an exact “Phillies Red” match would be achieved. Supported by our Technical Center and laboratory in Atlanta, GA all colors are blended to specifically match each job.

Fenway Park
Phoenix Bay State Construction Corporation of Boston used QUIKRETE® 3000-pound bags of Type “S” Mortar and Type “N” Mortar with color – to custom match the existing finish on the historic structure – using the Spec-Mix Silo System to help refurbish Fenway Park during the 2004 off-season. By using the Spec-Mix Silo System and bulk bags, they eliminated the need for sand piles and field mixing, resulting in limited product waste and a guaranteed mix consistency from the first brick layed to the last.

Lincoln Financial Field
Dan Lepore & Sons teamed up with The QUIKRETE® Companies in the construction of Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia. Lincoln Financial Field is the home of the Philadelphia Eagles, and functions as a playing field for many different events ranging from the Manchester United v. FC Barcelona soccer match to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse finals. QUIKRETE® had previously teamed up with the masonry contractor Dan Lepore & Sons in the construction of the Philadelphia Phillies Stadium.

Boerner Botanical Gardens
Masonry Specialists of Union Grove, Wis., turned to custom blending to complete a job for the Boerner Botanical Gardens on the New Visitor Center and Café for Milwaukee County. Mortar used for the project was required to match nearby structures built in the early 1900s. The job also called for a latex additive to increase bond and eliminate water penetration.

Georgia Aquarium
The QUIKRETE® Companies are proud to have been a part of the building and construction of the new Georgia Aquarium. As one of the largest aquariums in the world, the Georgia Aquarium is home to over 100,000 different marine animals including resecued Beluga Whales and two Whale Sharks from Taiwan. The aquarium serves as an educational, research and conservation facility.

National Museum of the American Indian
As a showcase to many native cultures, NMAI is home to one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of American Indian art and artifacts, representing a 10,000 year time span starting in ancient Pre-Columbian. NMAI is a five-story domed structure that has the appearance of a gigantic natural rock formation and is accented by curving bands of rough-cut, golden toned limestone.

Cleveland Browns Stadium
The QUIKRETE® Companies Bulk Mortar was selected by Giambrone Masonry for construction of the new Cleveland Browns Stadium. Construction of the stadium began in 1997 and is now home of the National Football League’s Cleveland Browns. Over five hundred 3000 lb. bags of Masonry Type “S” Mortar and over 1000 bulk bags of Core-Fill Grout (Coarse) throughout the project were used with the Spec-Mix Silo System. Giambrone Masonry, one of Ohio’s largest masonry contractors, uses QUIKRETE® for its quality, consistent, efficient products and versatility of the silo system.

Gillette Stadium
During the height of construction, the project superintendent had up to 50 bricklayers on the job, installing over 600,000 concrete masonry units plus an additional 200,000 architectural “Patriot Red” units. QUIKRETE® delivered over 2000 bulk bags of gray and “Patriot red” mortar, plus another 850 bulk bags of grout. The project superintendent set up three separate mixing stations with four silos at each, manned with a single mortar tender for all four stations. The mortar tender produced all of the mortar and grout plus fed the cranes and forklifts.

Georgia World Congress Center
For the Georgia World Congress Center massive expansion project, Jollay Masonry turned to The QUIKRETE® Companies for the quality and efficiency of its pre-mix Core-Fill Grout (Coarse) and Spec-Mix Silo System. In fact, Jollay Masonry had been using this product for just about every other project and was extremely satisfied with the flexible application to pour at any time and any where on site without the logistics of scheduling or positioning ready-mix trucks. And as this was an all-interior application, the pre-mix Core-Fill Grout made it possible.

Wachovia Financial Center
QUIKRETE® Sand Topping Mix was used to set 12,500 sq. ft. of exterior concrete tile. The polished concrete tiles, measuring 3 ft. X 4 ft. X 2 in., were set using 2”-3” of QUIKRETE® Sand Topping Mix as the underlayment base.

BYU Student Housing
1,080,000 square feet of One Coat Fiberglass Reinforced Stucco installed over 1” polystyrene foam spray applied at ½” thickness. The project consisted of five multi-unit buildings. QUIKRETE’s one-hour fire rating over the combination of OSB and EPS foam was a key element in the selection of QUIKRETE One-coat Fiberglass Reinforced Stucco.

NJ DOT Bridge Deck & Column Repair
FastSet™ Concrete Mix was used as a full depth structural bridge deck repair in application from 1-1/2” – 12” thick. QUIKRETE® 5000 was used as structural repair to bridge columns 1-1/2” – 6” thick.

I-70 Bridge Deck Repair
QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix was used to repair a 4’X8’ bridge deck failure on the westbound lane of I-70 over West 20th Ave. QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix achieved an initial set time of 30 minutes (17°F ambient temperature) and exceeded 3,000 psi in 90 minutes after placement. All lanes were open to traffic within 2-1/2 hours of product placement.

Salt Lake City Airport Taxiway
Installation of taxiway lighting at the SLC International Airport required placing concrete in peak temperatures of more than 100 degrees. Accordingly, Allstate Construction used 150 yards of pre-extended mix to fill 1,200 linear feet of taxiway and runway conduit trenches.

Shotcrete Projects

New World Symphony Campus
QUIKRETE® Shotcrete MS was used to construct 25,440 sq. ft. of structural soundproof walls and floor panels. The micro silica enhanced 9000 psi, dry-process shotcrete was applied at a thickness of 2 1/2” over wire mesh. The high comprehensive strength allowed project engineers to reduce wall panel thickness from 3” to 2 1/2”, decreasing the wall system’s weight significantly.

Stanford Linear Accelerator
QUIKRETE® Shotcrete MS – Fiber Reinforced is being used for structural tunnel lining for the 1,800 lineal foot tunnel. The high addition rate of synthetic fiber 18 lbs. vs. 1.5 lbs. typical additional rate has been selected for its post fracture strength. The project is location in a Seismic Zone 5.

Shotcrete cosmetic repairs of the face and Shotcrete Structural repairs on the Arches, Piers and overhead. Since this project, a new Shotcrete Repair Specification was written by RCS Consulting. This spec will be added to the 408 Spec that is used through the State for a guideline for all types of highway repairs.

San Francisco Bay Bridge
Bridge foundation pier grouting of support tower for self-anchored suspension structure. Flowcrete V, a flowable, shrinkage compensated, structural concrete is being used to fill the void between the inner and outer piles greater than 6 inches wide, General Purpose Non-Shrink Grout is placed in a fluid consistency for all pile voids less than 6 inches wide.

Mountain Wind Farm
Non-Shrink Precision Grout was used for grouting 29 wind turbine bases in Phase I of the Mountain Wind Farm project. Phase II will include 29 additional wind turbines. Turbine pedestal bases are 55 ft. x 55 ft. Turbine footings are 17 ft. in diameter.
